What Goes Around Comes Around is the twenty-eight episode of The Mask: The Animated Series.

Summary[]

Dr. Amelia Chronos returns and puts Stanley (and the Mask) in a time loop where Stanley (and the Mask) are doomed to repeat the same half-hour. To make matters worse, Dr. Amelia Chronos is using the time loop advantage to make clones of herself.

Plot[]

The Mask's fun night at the Coco Bongo gets interrupted by the sudden arrival of Dr. Amelia Chronos, who had escaped from the past. The Mask expects a fight, but, much to his surprise, Chronos just wants to dance with him. Unbeknowst to the Mask, Chronos implants a mysterious device into his right arm without the Mask noticing. Seconds later, a second Chronos appears right behind the the Mask, and both women attempt to destroy the Mask with energy beams fired from their stopwatches. The Mask, having anticipated the attack, dodges the beams and both Chronoses accidentally destroy each other.

The next day, Stanley attempts to score a date with Violet, his co-worker, but a flash of light envelops Stanley and, in just a few seconds, he finds himself back in his desk. When he asks Violet about their date, Violet replies that Stanley never asked her to go on a date. Chronos visits Stanley at the bank and he suspects he had something to do with his bad experience with Violet. Chronos reveals that she trapped Stanley in a time loop and now, Stanley must repeat the same 30 minutes forever.

Stanley attempts to break the time loop by reaching his apartment so he can put on the Mask, but time keeps looping back before Stanley can even reach his apartment. When Stanley repeats the loop, he attempts to reach his apartment again, but he keeps coming across multiple variants of Chronos on the way home. Even when he succeeds in putting on the Mask, he gets distracted playing pranks on Mrs. Peenman instead of breaking the loop. It's only when Milo rips one of the Mask's sleeves does the Mask see that Chronos implanted him with a device that forces him to continuously repeat the loop.

The Mask confronts Chronos about the device she implanted on him and demands that she remove it, but Chronos reveals that she implanted him with that device because she knew he was the only one that could stop her ultimate plan. The two variants of herself that the Mask encountered back the Coco Bongo were created when Chronos started travelling through time. Once Chronos started the time loop, multiple variants of her were created as a result, and Chronos wants to create as many variants as possible in order to cause a temporal disturbance that will destroy Edge City and allow her to become one with time.

The time loop repeats itself again and the Mask successfully removes the device from his arm. Unfortunately, Chronos has gathered enough variants of herself to cause a temporal disturbance that turns her into a goddess. The city begins to collapse all around Chronos, who attempts to throw the Mask into a timeless void. With Milo's help, the Mask throws the device Chronos had used to trap him into the time loop back into Chronos herself. The device causes Chronos' new powers to fluctuate and she gets trapped into a time loop, in which the Mask continuously drops a grandfather clock on her head.

With the time loop finally broken and the city saved, the Mask returns to the bank, where he invites Violet on a date at the Coco Bongo.
