Gorgonzola is a character from The Mask: The Animated Series.

Gorgonzola is the patron goddess of cheese of a long lost civilization, who could turn anything and anyone into cheese.

4000 years ago, she was the half-brother of Parma Siano, the richest dairy farmer of Mesopotamia. She was caught stealing his riches and became an outcast shunned by society, she swore revenge. She was later buried and an amulet containing the remains of her soul was placed there on an ancient pedestal. It was a wedge of cheese encased in amber and had an inscription on the back that warned that whoever removed it from the tomb and wore it would change into evil Gorgonzola at night when the moon reached it's third quarter.

4000 years later, Mrs Peenman's niece and archaeologist Jennifer found the amulet in Gorgonzola's tomb in Mesopotamia and put it around her neck, transforming into the evil monster. She then began using her cheese powers to terrorize Edge City. However the Mask defeated her, removing the amulet and taking it back to the tomb, imprisoning Gorgonzola for eternity. All the damage Gorgonzola had done to Edge City was reversed and Jennifer returned to normal with no memory of what had transpired.

She reappeared in "Convention of Evil", where she is invited to a group therapy session held by psychiatrist Dr. Neuman along with other villains Pretorius, Lonnie the Shark and Pete, The Tempest, The Stinger and Bub. Gorgonzola was describing her battle with the Mask before being interrupted half way through with the arrival of Bub, though she managed to finish. Eventually all the villains were defeated by the Mask who had been disguised as Dr. Neuman all along, while the real Dr. Neuman had been held up in traffic jam on the way to the session. Gorgonzola's defeat came from the Mask dropping a large anvil on her.

Trivia[]

  • She is the first female to get an atomic wedgie from the Mask and one of the three along with Agnes Peenman and Snot of the Goofalotatots.
  • She is one of the many female characters voiced by Cree Summer along with Cookie BaBoom, Davida Steelmine and the rebel leader from Future Mask.
  • It is unknown how Gorgonzola returns in Convention of Evil since the Mask returns the amulet to its tomb in Mask au Gratin. It could be possible that Jennifer got it back or someone else found it and transformed instead.
  • Gorgonzola and her power to turn anything and anyone into cheese could be a reference to these two fictional beings from real-life Ancient Greek mythology: King Midas, who had the power to turn anything he touched into gold; Or Medusa, the woman who had snakes for hair and anyone who looked at her turned into stone.
